In Brasile, Doritos ha lanciato un mockumentary, un finto documentario di ben 12 minuti, che indaga sulla bizzarra pettinatura che Ronaldo Nazário sfoggiò in campo nel 2002: quel taglio di capelli “a mezzaluna” che poteva essere considerato una distrazione tattica per spostare l’attenzione dei media dai suoi infortuni, ma che potrebbe essere stato un’altra cosa. Un triangolo.

“The Triangle Theory”, firmato dall’agenzia AlmapBBDO, reinterpreta uno dei più grandi misteri del calcio in un’operazione di cultural hacking che mescola nostalgia e satira e porta il brand nelle conversazioni dei tifosi.

La campagna ha puntato su una strategia di earned media: in un primo momento filmati d’archivio sono stati fatti “trapelare” sui social media, scatenando teorie del complotto tra fan di tutte le generazioni e puristi del calcio.

La storia ha acquisito legittimità mainstream quando TNT Sports ha dedicato un servizio alle “nuove prove”, con esperti e commentatori a dibattere se il Fenomeno fosse stato un brand ambassador segreto fin dall’inizio. Infine è arrivato il mockumentary investigativo di 12 minuti, a metà tra thriller e commedia surreale, che presenta interviste con storici dello sport, stilisti e lo stesso Ronaldo. La sua interpretazione si colloca perfettamente sul confine tra verità e finzione, lasciando al pubblico la domanda definitiva: «Potrebbe essere tutto vero?».

Per dare corpo alla teoria, Doritos ha anche pubblicato il “Lost Ad del 2002”, video meticolosamente realizzato con l’estetica lo-fi, le texture sgranate e il montaggio vintage dell’epoca.
